Editorial policy
What we publish, what we refuse to publish, and how money does not touch the data.
What we publish
Manufacturer-stated specifications, safety features, FCC and recall records, and troubleshooting steps from manuals, each with a source.
What we do not publish
- Claims that we physically checked a product.
- Percentages or statistics without a published source.
- Star ratings or review counts from retailers.
- Prices, discounts or stock levels.
- Medical advice. Health topics link to veterinary sources.
Money and data
If a page carries a retailer link that pays us a commission, that never changes a value, a safety layer or the order of a list. Lists are sorted by a data field, stated at the top of each list.
Writing
Explanations around the data are written to help a reader understand the numbers. Text is checked against the database before publication: a number that is not in the database cannot appear in the text.
Quotations
From any outside publication we quote at most one short passage, under 15 words. Everything else is put in our own words with a link to the source. Manufacturer manuals are summarised the same way.
Corrections
Send the value and a source to [email protected]. We fix confirmed errors and update the check date.
